Raw/splash... How To...

inizierei col dire che questa procedura è pericolosa, in quanto necessita dell'uso di soda caustica pura, la quale è altamente corrosiva e se arriva a contatto con la pelle, ustiona e corrode immediatamente arrivando subito alla carne! pertanto quelle in seguito descritte sono procedure effettuabili solo ed esclusivamente da persone adulte e consapevoli dei rischi e delle misure di tutela necessarie a svolgere il lavoro in sicurezza, come ad esempio l'utilizzo di guanti di gomma spessa, occhiali protettivi, operare tenendo il tutto lontano dal viso, inquanto la soluzione risulta avere una discreta effervescenza e rilascia esalazioni... e a tal proposito sarebbe ideale fare tutto all'aperto.

detto ciò iniziamo dal materiale, ci servirà:

- un barattolo di metallo o vetro
- un paio di guanti di gomma spessa (ed eventualmente anche degli occhiali da lavoro)
- un pennellino
- 2 pezzi di barra filettata per tenere le coppe (in questo caso filettatura M4)
- della colla tipo bostik, io ho usato la "Colla Artiglio"
- della candeggina
- della soda caustica pura (reperibile nelle ferramente)
- acqua fresca corrente
- acqua calda

iniziamo!

- per prima cosa si smonta lo yoyo, si toglie l'asse, il cuscinetto ed il sistema di ritorno e si avvitano le coppe alle due barre filettare che ci permetteranno di muoverle senza doverle più toccare

- il passo successivo è quello di pulire le coppe nel caso fossero grasse o sporche (es. dal sudore delle mani, ecc.) e ciò può essere traquillamente fatto passandole con della carta da cucina bagnata con la avio che usiamo per sbenzinare, la quale poi evaporerà totalmente nn lasciando traccie

- a questo punto si prende il pennellino e grazie ad esso si tirerà sulle coppe la Colla Artiglio a mo di splash o di qualsiasi altro tipo di motivo. Fatto questo si aspetterà che la stessa colla asciughi completamente (è necessaria una mezzoretta circa) ed a quel punto la mascheratura delle nostre coppe sarà completa

- il passo successivo sarà quello di immergere le coppe nella candeggina, che abbiamo preparato nel nostro barattolo, e poi di sciacquarle sotto l'acqua corrente (nn chiedetemi perchè in quanto nn lo so... Vendetta dice di fare così )

- a questo punto indossiamo i nostri bei guanti spessi, se vogliamo pure gli occhiali e prepariamo la soda nel nostro barattolo (che chiaramente nel frattempo abbiamo liberato dalla candeggina e sciacquato).
La soda come ho già deto è pura e si presenta in forma solida di scaglie bianche, per essere utilizzata al meglio va sciolta in acqua calda (con una tempoeratura di circa 50°) ed indicativamente ne va un mezzo cucchiaio da minestra per bicchiere (io faccio ad occhio.... nn è che stiamo preparando una torta eh ), facendo ciò si otterrà una soluzione effervescente che sprigionerà un discerto calore e delle esalazioni parecchio pungenti.
Appena la soluzione è pronta si immerge la prima coppa nel barattolo, il processo di decolorazione dura in tutto dai 5 ai 10 secondi, infatti nei primi 2-3 secondi sembra che nulla succeda, poi il colore inizia a sciogliersi e in 4-5 secondi si vedrà il metallo lucido apparire distintamente, a quel punto la coppa va tirata fuori e messa immediatamente sotto l'acqua corrente e sciacquata accuratamente in ogni suo punto... se si lascia per troppo tempo la soda agire la stessa corroderà il metallo maccchiandolo irreparabilmente o cmq facendogli perdere la sua lucentezza.
Fatta la prima coppa si fa lo stesso con l'altra.

- una volta sciacquate bene le due coppe si potrà rimuoverè la mascheratura di colla semplicemente tirandola via (serve un po' di pazienza inquanto pur togliendosi abbastanza agevolmente, la stessa ha un forte potere adesivante) ed il colore della anodizzazione risulterà totalmente intatto e ben definito rispetto alle nuove aree raw

- Vendetta, a questo punto, consiglia di spruzzare le coppe con del WD 40 (svitol per capirci) e di strofinarle... anche di questa cosa mi sfugge completamente il perchè... io per nn saper ne leggere ne scrivere l'ho fatto, però nn mi sembra ci siano stati cambiamenti apprezzabili... fate voi come preferite

A questo punto nn ci resta che rimontare lo yoyo, mettere a posto il materiale utilizzato e godersi il nostro nuovo yoyo raw/splash!!!

First of all, I’d like to say that this procedure is dangerous since it need pure soda that is higly corrosive and if it comes in contact with your skin, it will scald and corrode your skin, reaching the flesh almost instantly! This is why all the following instructions must be performed by adults who are aware of the consequences and can work safely using thick rubber gloves and shielding glasses and executing all the steps keeping everything away from your face since the solution is quite sparkling and gives off dangerous fumes and because of this it would be great operating outdoors.

We’ll need:
- a jar made of glass or metal;
- a pair of thick rubber gloves (and a pair of shielding glasses as well, if possible)
-a small brush
- 2 threaded bars to hold yoyo cups (in this case we’ll need the M4 thread)
- Bostik glue but I’ve use the “Artiglio Glue”
- bleach
- pure soda (you can get it at your local department store)
- fresh water
- hot water

Let’s start!

First of all we dismantle the yoyo taking the axle away together with the bearing and the return system. Then we fix the two yoyo cups to the threaded bars that will allow us to move them without touching them.
The next step is to fully clean the two cups if they are dirty or greasy (hands’ sweat etc…) and that can be easily made by using all purpose paper with avio gas (the same avio gas that we use to clean our bearings up) that will evaporate leaving no traces on the yoyo cups.
At this point we’ll use the small brush to put some glue on the two cups using the “splash” technique or any other style we prefer. We’ll have then to wait for the glue to dry and then this step will be completed.
The next step consists into submerging the two cups inside the bleach that we previously poured into the jar and then pouring cold water on them (don’t ask me why because I don’t know… Vendetta tells to do so J )
At this point, wear the gloves and possibly the shielding glasses and let’s prepare the soda in our jar that we previously cleaned from the bleach. As I said before, the soda is pure and it is made by solid white scales and in order to be used must be melted with hot water (50° C). The proportion that must be followed is half a spoon in a glass with hot water. Melting the soda with hot water will create a sparkling solution that will create some heat and really sour fumes.
Once the solution is ready, submerge the first cup inside the jar. The decolorating process lasts from 5 to 10 seconds but in the first 2-3 seconds nothing seems to appear but the color starts to melt away and in 4-5 seconds the lucid metal will appear clearly and that’s the moment to pick up the cup and pour fresh water on it in order to clean it. Be sure to not expose the cup to the soda for too much time or the soda will ruin the metal with stains.
Once you’ve made the first cup, do the same with the other.
Once you’ve rinsed the two cups, you’ll be able to remove the glue just taking it off (you’ll need to be patient since even if the glue is removed quite easily, the glue itself usually sticks to the cups with a good amount of strength) showing off the new anodization and the new war areas.
Vendetta now tells us to spray the two cups with WD 40 and to rub them. I don’t know the reason to do this but I’ve made it to be sure. You can choose what to do.

35]At this point we just need to reassemble the yoyo, put all the material we used away and enjoy our new raw/splash yoyo!

bAd, Project "Twin Cherries"

Lo so che vi sto ammorbando, con queste mod, ma adesso mi metto tranquillo per un po', promesso!

Tempo fa ho acquistato questo P2 da Albertino.

I know I'm probably exhausting you with all of these mods, but after this one I'll settle down for a while, I promise!

A while ago I bought this P2 from Albertino.

Devo dire che era piuttosto malconcio, ma nemmeno poi così tanto (per essere di Albertino.... )
Volevo farci qualcosa, ma mi piaceva talmente tanto il colore (non so se le foto renderanno, ma è un colore stranissimo, tra il rosso e il ciclamino, secondo me molto bello) che non volevo perderlo.
Al tempo stesso, però, mi piace che gli sdinghi sui miei yoyo siano fatti da me, quindi volevo togliere quelli di Albe.

Visto il mio recente avvicinamento al 5A, mi è venuto in mente questo:

I must say that it was quite battered, but not as much as one would expect (considering it was Albertino's... )
I badly wanted to do something with it, but I so much liked the colour (I don't know if the pictures will do it justice, but it is a very peculiar colour, between red and magenta, and I find it beautiful) that I thought it would be a shame to lose it.
At the same time, however, I like the damage on my yoyos to be "bAd-inflicted", so I wanted to try and take off Albertino's marks.

Since I recently started learning 5A, I had this idea:

Inizialmente avevo lucidato solamente i rims (sopra e di lato) per eliminare gli sding e i graffi, e la parte attigua alle recess, per dare un'idea di simmetria. Poi però si notavano ancora parecchio i minuscoli graffietti di Albe sulla "scalinata" delle coppe del P2, e così ho dato una passata leggera anche a quelle, portando fuori l'alluminio solo nella parte sporgente di ogni "gradino".
Anche così, grinda ancora molto bene, per quanto io sia in grado di capire...

I had initially polished just the rims (front and side) to get rid of scratches and flat sposts, and the ring next to the recess, to give an idea of symmetry.
After that, however, the small scratches on the P2's catch zone's "staircase" were still very remarkable, so I sanded them as well, very lightly, letting the aluminum poke through the anodizing only on the ridge of each "step".
Even after this, the P2 still grinds great, at least as far as I am able to judge...

Battosai Zuppa Inglese Ed.

Dopo svariati ripensamenti dovuti più che altro da una ferma convinzione che aerografare uno yoyo possa sbilanciarlo e quindi induca inevitabili vibrazioni ho finalmente ceduto all'affascinante idea di vedere girare qualcosa da me pittato.
La spinta definitiva l'ho avuta dalle garbate quanto pressanti richieste di amici, si anche se vi ho conosciuto da poco questa è la definizione più vicina alla realta, che mi hanno letteralmente spinto a provare.

I'm firmly convinced that painting, even with the airbrush, can damage the yoyo stability introducing vibrations. But finally, after a lot of thinking I surrendered because I was intrigued to see spinng a yoyo painted by myself.
The final push was given to me by some friends, this is the only way I can define them, even if I've known them only for a short time, that kept on pressing me to give it a try.

Questo lavoro mi è stato commissionato da un folle che mi ha fatto pittare un VsNewton Battosai.
Il Battosai in questione era standard blu, e la richiesta era quella di possedere un unico:

This work has been commisioned to me buy a crazy guy that gave me a VsNewton Battosai.
The Battosai was originally the standard blue edition and I was requested to make it unique.

Battosai English Trifle Ed.

Vorrei premettere che non trovo giusto parlare in questo caso di aerografia ma preferisco vederla come una colorazione, in quanto si tratta di una colorazione di base con in sequenza di varie pallinature e spleshature ma con l'aerografo ho fatto veramente molto poco il resto sono tecniche miste.
Essendo una vera e propria prova ho inizialmente pesato le coppe risultanti entrambe di 30g che ho poi ripesato a lavoro ultimato.

Fist I think it is not correct to call this an airbrush work, and I prefer to define it as just a painting work since it's only a basic painting with a sequence of dots and splashes in sequence. The airbrushing was really marginal: most of the work is done with mix of other tecniques.
Since this is my first try I decided to weight the two halves before painting in order to compare the weight after the work would be finished.

Ma andiamo ad iniziare,

Fase 1 ho trattato le coppe con carta vetrata fine per permettere al colore di aggrapparsi nel miglior modo possibile sull'anodizzazione.

Fase 2 ho spruzzato leggermente del fondo ancorante senza esagerare per non pesare troppo.

Fase 3 ho steso con l'aerografo il colore base un crema pasticcera fatta in casa con una spruzzatina di zucchero a velo finissimo.

Dopo aver atteso i giusti tempi di asciugatura ho steso una gocciolatura di finissimo cioccolato fondente,
seguito da una spleshatura di ottimo Alchermes. Per la spleshatura mi sono ispirato alla spleshatura propria dei battosai 28 stories per dare comunque una contestualizzazione al progetto ovviamente riveduta e corretta dal sottoscritto.

Fase 4 La fase più delicata ovvero ho ricoperto il tutto con una mano di trasparente protettivo, il lavoro è stato fatto rigorosamente nel forno di una carrozzeria per avere il giusto indurimento del trasparente e ovviamente in un ambiante esente da polveri.

A lavoro ultimato ho siliconato il sistema di ritorno con il classico Motorsil Rosso, che ci sta proprio bene

But let's begin.

Fist step: I sanded the halves to ensure a better grip of the paint on the original anodization

Second step: i applied a really thin coat of primer

Third step:I airbrushed the base with a pastry cream colour with just a duster of icing sugar

I gave the right time for the drying of both halves and than I added some drops of fine dark chocolates followed by some spashes of Alchermes. For the splashes I was inspired by the 28th stories Buttosai to give the project a family feeling, but with my personal touch.

Fourth step: the most delicate part of the process, I gave a thin film of trasparent protective paint This part of the process took place in an appropiate body shop hoven to insure the right drying of the paint in a dust less enviroment.

At last I siliconed the recess with Red Motorsil D, that looks perfect on this yoyo.

In rotazione, sinceramente pensavo si sbilanciasse di più ma comunque una qualche vibrazioncina l'ha presa.

Spinning, I honestly thought that balance would be worst but some vibrations are present.

il peso è rimasto attorno ai 30gr anche se la bilancia era più propensa verso i 31gr

Prossimamente ho in programma 2 - 3 progetti di aerografia vera e propria lasciati alla mia fantasia, nell'attesa mi piacerebbe sapere cosa ne pensate di questo esordio.

In the close future I plan 2 or 3 real airbrush works left by the yoyo owners to my fantasy, in the meanwhile I'll like to have your feedback on my debut.
